Perplexity took rank nine in Issue 002 as the research layer every PM already needed but few had formalized. It answers questions across the live web and cites its sources, which turns the competitive sweep from a lost afternoon of tab-hoarding into twenty minutes of sourced reading.
The citations are why it made the stack over generic chat tools. A market claim in a strategy review is only as strong as the link behind it, and Perplexity hands you the links — pricing pages, changelogs, launch posts — so the answer survives a skeptical VP. We found it most valuable in three recurring jobs: the competitor deep-dive before a positioning refresh, the 'does this segment actually exist' check before a bet, and the weekly scan of what shipped while you were in meetings.
The caveat from our testing: it answers the question you ask, literally, so a lazy query returns a lazy summary with excellent footnotes.
